If the goo-coating on the weapon is the culprit, would it work on a weapon trap? Enemy walks on it, gets stabbed/nicked, and later on bleeds to death by the fat/flesh/skin melting hot goo on the sword? Or would it need longer exposure than one hit to be fatal?

Being wounded by a goo-coated weapon? I don't know how coverings transfer between creatures but I'd guess not. Would be funny though.

One thing that bothers me is that all my militia have gauntlets as part of their uniform. Does the goo melt that as well? I haven't checked for gauntlets in my stocks.

Gauntlets should do so eventually, but as I recall, because the game lacks concepts of "inside" and "outside" for most items and contaminants in particular, if a contaminant is on any part of the item, it's effectively coating the entire item. I don't recall if contaminants transfer between clothing layers though (which if true would imply some gloves under those gauntlets would save you).

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

I recommend the clean function from dwarf hack, I know its cheating, but I actually saved two forts I wrote off to fps death after washing-off and deleting 30 some pages of blood spatter, pus and other contaminants from every single dwarf. The fact that it works on FB extract seems like the icing on the cake compared to the fps regained immediately.
