embark points help?
« on: January 16, 2011, 05:35:33 pm »

I have been having trouble making it so that I can have loads of embark points starting out. I have been searching random files looking for embark points and the only place I found them in was the world_gen file. I changed all the embark points on it to 10000, but I still start out with a bunch of stuff and 0 embark points whenever I "prepare carefully"

You need to regenerate the world I do believe.

Did you gen AFTER changing the embark points? If yes, use cheatengine or artmoney.

This is the embark points thing, I have this for all places that I can put embark points.

   [EMBARK_POINTS:10000]

Do I need to have it like this?

   [EMBARK_POINTS:10,000]

Why are you even changing the embark_points in the init files?
It's in the advanced world designer, try that instead.

When you generate worlds, are you using the "Create New World," or the "Design New World with Advanced Parameters" option? The first uses a hardcoded set of parameters, including a set number of embark points that can all get eaten if you're using mods with more-expensive-than-normal materials involved. The second allows you to use the world_gen file's parameters, including the altered number of embark points.

Also, when you make a world with advanced parameters, you might want to change the embark points ingame rather than through editing a .txt file. To do this, enter the advanced parameters option, scroll to a parameter set you want to edit (such as MEDIUM REGION), hit e to enter the parameter editing screen, scroll to the Embark Points line (which is the 9th one), then use 4 or 6 to increase or decrease it or ENTER and then type a value of up to 10000.

Unless you want to get rid of caves or put lots of volcanoes down or something, just leave the advanced parameters alone and gen the size you want. The embark points are right up top and that's all you're likely to change. F6 after changing to save it.
