Rakustsherik - Farm Fortress - Story of the fortress. (full)
« on: February 22, 2011, 03:48:24 am »

I'm writing the story of my fortress, Rakustsherik. The story's done from the point of view of a head farmer writing back to an anonymous noble in the mountainhomes. Here is the .pdf file, as it didn't translate to .html and certainly not to .phpbb. (All those images are touchy.)

The story:

Any comments? Suggestions? Tips for better writing?

Thanks,
 --DDR

If anyone wants the source .wpd document this was from, drop me a line. ;)

Nice so far - but I am concerned that so many deaths were caused by TRIPPING OVER LIVESTOCK!?!

Is this a common part of .19?

Cow Tipping is the #3 cause of death for dwarves across all universes that Armok presides over, shadowed only by magma and sock retrieval, with approximately 50% of sock retrieval deaths actually caused by magma.  This number may be skewed, as many lye makers are intentionally dumped into magma, and thus the natural death rates are unknown.

Wait, tripping?  Hmm, not sure...

Here is what I believe was happening:
1) Some of the new farm animals pick random fights.
2) When dwarfs are dodging in a fight, they happily dodge of cliffs.
3) My embark wagon, where everyone was, was right on top of my entrance. My entrance is one tile high, plus one whole tile for the roof.
Therefore:
Animal picks fight with dwarf already standing on edge of entrance-cliff. Dwarf goes, "oh snap angry goose", takes an involuntary step backwards, falls off the cliff and cracks his skull open.
I expect this would not be a problem if you set your meeting place five tiles away from the only cliff on the map. But, where's the fun in that? ;)
