My fort noble has a throne named "the massive slaughter". The whole fort is set to slaughter anything comming in in a rather permanent way. It has so far survived for 10 years and is nearing fps death. I just want to complete making the fort because it'll be pretty scary to visit in adventure mode. Traps, blood and gore. When the roof on the fort is done I'm going to mass produce some steel stuff and abandon. It's a great site, but Oh man, I'm so looking forward to migrants from this fort. Half of them are legendary in at least 2 things.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

And then everyone melted.

I first started DF because I heard an obscure reference to it I checked out the forums and read about how dwarves were biting children's noses off and beating them to death with the skulls of their parents. I tried it after that didn't understand too much was about a week then I heard about boatmurdered and jumped in blind determined to learn it.

When I first started I had no idea about texture packs, dwarf therapist, or any of the complex features. I just jumped in...and it was bad.

My first fort I embarked in a forest over an aquifer. I spent the first 30 minutes in the game figuring out how to dig down (D, J) (designate downward stairway) (and then designating an upward stairway so they can get down there) and what everything was supposed to represent  after I realized you could only dig if it was a cliffface on the same level. I hit the aquifer...had no access to stone and just focused on trying to get past that. I was so engrossed with getting past the aquifer that I didn't feed or water my minions. (mostly because I still didn't know about stockpiles. and did not know about stockpiles or farming well into my 3rd fort)

Basically after every fort up until the 100th or so one I learned one new thing It was slow but boy did those dwarves have some !!FUN!! worst experience was figuring out the military screen stationing dwarves properly and getting them to arm themselves. (UGHH they still wont pick up what I want them to pick up half the time)

Oh and I tried out the graphics packs when I figured out what it was while I do think it is easier for newbies because you can see what is going on easier it kills my immersion.

Nowadays I do crazy megaprojects on challenge forts (embark with only social skill nobles) (No going underground) trading for everything. Hardest part thus far is getting enough barrels and trading with elves since they wont take anything I have. (Most of my megaprojects are completely screwed over by 1 mistake...(such as channeling and forgetting it destroys the square beneath it.) (flooded my caverns completely and since I had only made one main stairway up they all drowned because of the water pressure.)
