The "severed" thing means that they are removed, not damaged. You cannot fix it with [HEALING_RATE:100] I think.

Yeah.. no matter how low I set the [HEALING_RATE] for nerves, I can't get severed ones to heal.

The lovely bit is that when it comes to nerve damage, I've never seen simply 'damaged' ones; they're always severed.

Severed body parts never heal.  Your dwarves don't regrow severed arms or limbs, either.

Nor should they. It's not like they are trolls or anything. Urist McStub will be like that forever, you chose whether to support his useless life or not.

My dwarves don't need to regrow severed limbs. They have 7 pairs of arms.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

PowerGoal45, MEET THE CYBERFIST, (Future): You use your iron geared prosthetic hand to crush a piece of stone in front of the cowering goblin, and it passes out.

Hee hee hee.

I would love to see prosthetics in dwarf fortress, from hook hands/peg legs to full steampunk.  The latter should require masterwork mechanisms and a complex production line.

This would be cool, even if it was limited to hook hands and peg legs.

Although there should be some way to fix a hammer/axe/pick/mug/whatever in place of the hand.

A hand permanently replaced with a mug?... that would be epic dwarfness!

What about a mug with a hook protruding from the bottom?  And maybe a sword coming out of the side?  A dwarven army mug. XD
