Friendly fire from traps?
« on: September 28, 2010, 05:34:30 pm »

I know that traps aren't triggered by friendlies, but what if you have a dwarf in combat on a trap square that an enemy enters?  Does the dwarf also have to fear for life and limb when that serrated disks starts spinning at the goblin?  Realistically, yes, but I haven't noticed yet (never paid attention).

The only time one of your dwarves will ever be affected by a weapon or cage trap is if they go unconscious on that tile.

However, if they do fall unconscious on a weapon trap, they are almost guaranteed dead.

Unless you use wooden weapons in your traps. Or it is jammed. Or out of ammo. Or submerged in magma. No, wait, he would still be dead.

What if somebody triggers the trap remotely with a switch? Couldn't that hit them?

You can't trigger traps remotely.

Upright spikes, on the other hand...

I thought thta upright spikes were considered a trap. They're in the raws as a trap component.

Upright weapon traps work differently than other traps. Where stonefall, cage, and weapon traps are passive and simply activate on any appropriate creature entering their square, upright spikes require linkage to some trigger to be used, as they only damage enemies when they extend.

upright spikes require linkage to some trigger to be used, as they only damage anything and everything enemies when they extend.

fixed for clarity.  Things also take damage when they fall on already extended spike traps.
