How can I disable immigrants and enemies? [solved by zwei]

I want to get rid of them to prevent my fortress from FPS/goblin death.

in d_init.txt should do the trick.

You'll still get 2 migrant waves in the first year.  Dont be surprised by them, they are unstoppable but that should be the lot

I'm reviving this thread with a platinum war hammer thump to the chest to ask this question:
wouldn't setting the population cap to 1 also prevent pregnancies? cause I wanna make a fort with just my initial seven and slowly build it up.

POPULATION_CAP only controls immigrants.  BABY_CHILD_CAP controls pregnancies.

The Dwarf Fortress File Depot normally has a small or pocket region for each version of DF where there are no more dwarven civilizations.

There's a pocket size nodwarf map there now for 31.18 - it is actually a nice rock + water + volcano setup.  Salt water though, you will have to use a pump and a fully dorf-constructed reservoir for well water.

If you push your craftsdwarves hard and use the most valuable materials to make your shops and initial goods, you can be up to a population of 20+ after 2 immigration waves, then thats it - no more dwarves in the world other than the ones in your fort.  Elves and humans do occasionally come to trade, but not often.

There was a floor value for the population cap in init for previous versions, was that removed? IIRC it didn't function if you set it below 10 or something.

I think the lowest working value for the pop cap is 10, (so 1 will effectively be 10) but because the first two mmigrant waves are hardcoded, that hardlt ever matters
