stone detailing mood?
« on: January 10, 2011, 11:09:28 pm »

It is the only labor which he has any skill in. He got a fey mood and went to a craftsdwarfs workshop. He grabbed a piece of stone first, so I was expecting him to become a stonecrafter, but instead it put him up to max skill in stone detailing!! Is this normal?

He made a rhyolite scepter worth 9600, and the leather he used isn't anywhere on the item.

That's a bit of a weird trait of certain skills that can have strange moods, but don't actually produce finished goods out of the usual mood supplies.  You'll find that engravers and tanners will make a stone-carving and leatherworking job for their mood, respectively, yet get experience in that primary skillset instead of the one they used to make their artifact.

Miners can also get strange moods - they'll produce a piece of stone furniture and gain Mining skill as a result.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Yeah this happens with mining as well. It annoyed me because I used to give my miners a single point in armoursmith with moods in mind. When one finally got a mood, he went to a mason's workshop.

I'm only going to say this once so pay attention.

1. Adamantine Thread for Sutures
2. Legendary leg engraver creates masterpiece.
3. Fell mood artifact weapon.

This is an enscribed adamantine dwarf-leg hammer.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes OF SHEER AWESOMENESS.

Or maybe something that looked like a flail, but you'd use the adamantine thread itself to effectively cut through armor and limbs like a cheesecutter?

Dwarf, standing centre.
