Author Topic: Get Kicked Off Internet Every Time I Try To Play Source Games On Multiplayer  (Read 1536 times)

So, yeah, I'm on a 10Mb line and I'm getting kicked off the internet (by which I mean that my router COMPLETELY loses the connection to the internet) whenever I try connecting to a Source game (Team Fortress 2, Pirates, Vikings and Knights 2, Counter-Strike Source), or shortly after I connect. Oddly doesn't affect Left4Dead2.

This doesn't seem to effect non-Source games (played both Alien Swarm and Alien vs. Predator 2010 multiplayer just fine), only these few.

It seems to disconnect me whenever it says "sending client info". Could it possibly be the information from my computer going through the router buggers it up and displaces the connection or something along those lines?

Please help ASAP. :p It's hard to live without multiplayer!

You sure your account hasn't been banned? (though in that case the behavior of Left4Dead2 is weird)

Fairly certain. I get a few seconds to minutes of connection before getting booted. Happens most often within a few seconds or whilst I'm doing "sending client info".

Maybe a virus latched onto a steam related file that L4D doesn't use, and the anti-cheat thingy might be thinking it's a hack attempt. Try virus-checking.

I'll try it, but I doubt it.

EDIT: It's not that I get booted off Steam or whatever, it's that my internet connection is SEVERED completely. If Valve has that kinda power already, I am filled with fear. I'll probably just end up getting onto my ISP AGAIN tomorrow. I've already had to do with trouble with a faulty microfilter and router, now I'm having to deal with games booting me off. =p

After replacing the router, everything now works.

Strange. My 4 year old router died right around the holidays too. Not died exactly, it just started inconsistently connecting to the internet for long periods of time.

Planned obsolescence, I guess?

I had a problem just like this on Battle.net, though it only took effect when I tried to download maps hosted by bot programs. It would sever my internet completely for 1-5 minutes.

I don't think I ever actually solved it, because Starcraft II came out.

Just reminded of this because the cases were very similar.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

It might have been map downloading, actually.

Oh, well, no idea.

Overheating router, probably.  Crappy ones have a habit of doing that once you saturate their capacity.

I didn't even know routers got hot enough to malfunction.
