Trying to choose an Android phone
« on: January 06, 2011, 05:06:22 pm »

My criteria:
- Must have a real keyboard
-  The more complete, the better
-  Slide-out is ideal
-  Durable?  My phones tend to get beaten up a lot
- Should have fun hardware sensors or gizmos to write code to use
-  Whatever the coolest current accelerometers or tilt thingamabobs are, I want them
-  They all have GPS, right?  'Cause that's mandatory, and accurate is good.
- Battery life should be good.
-  And reception should hopefully not suck, because I live in a valley.

Not important:
- Price
- Processor speed, within reason

And I don't know all that much about all this newfangled app store stuff, but...these things would all function as GPS navigation systems, right?  With the "Turn left here" and et cetera?

I'm going with a Droid because it's got the most open dev environment.  So if there's some big gotchas there that I should be aware of, that's important, too.  :|

Thanks much!  I don't have a CLUE about this market.  My current phone doesn't even have a texting plan, and its alarm clock program has a bug that makes it not work sometimes.  So...yeah.
