Importing of goods: Stone Blocks and Steel-Making.

We need to be able to use Stone Blocks when smelting.

From the stone/ore layouts I've seen, near a volcano/magma vent is usually a bad place to find flux materials. This is pretty true to life. The problem is, you can easily end up with lots of iron and magma, and absolutely no way to make steel, because stone blocks can't be used while smelting. So even if I import chalk or marble blocks to use as flux, I can't make steel with it.

I am betting the same rings true of glass, when importing blocks of sand. Which drives me a bit nuts because there is also no sand on my maps and dwarves are requesting glass when they get strange moods.

also cut rock crystals and crystal glass making - you can't trade for rough rock crystals, and you can't make glass from cut ones.

Well that sucks, not that I have the same problem: my volcanic fort lacks even IRON.  I have copper, some plat, gold, and aluminum.
