I've read arguments for and against that reagents can be found by reactions inside containers, and have done some playtesting myself to no conclusive result due to my poorer modding skills.

Just a couple of questions:

1. Can custom reactions find reagents inside bins? This I assume to be yes because smelters and forges can find bars inside bins. I assume this applies to custom mod toys as well (Since there are mods on this board with toy reagents).

2. Can custom reactions involving food items (such as meat) find meat reagents inside barrels? This I am not sure of, as I have seen people say they can or can't. My own playtesting shows that my custom reactions won't show even when the reagents are available (but in barrels).

3. Can custom reactions involving fluids (such as lye, alcohol, and dwarven syrup) find their reagents inside containers? This one is confusing as it seems nothing in vials can be found, but things in buckets can be found if possessing a special tag, ie. [CONTAINS_LYE].

Assistance on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind.

Further testing confirmed that:

1. Items in bins CAN be found by custom reactions.

2. Items in barrels CANNOT be found by custom reactions.

I've read that it changes things up a bit in this regard if you queue jobs via the manager rather than the workshop. Did you try that?

Yes. In fact I had to queue some of the jobs using manager directly to find out they wouldn't work as they weren't showing up in the custom workshops.
