I'd like to make a mod which includes an herbivorous player race.  Is there a way to prevent a race from eating meat?  I plan on not including the butcher shop in the entity, so that should reduce meat consumption by limiting production.  However, I suspect traders will still bring meat, and it will still be available on embark. 

Any advice?  Elves don't trade meat, right?

remove edible_cooked and edible_raw tags from anything meat.

don't do that unless you want Everyone herbivore right?

your talking about Herbivore entities that exclusively don't eat meat; i suspect elves eat meat actually by all rules of dwarf fortress; if you make a playable elf civ (thats easy) they'll eat meat.. i didn't consider making them vegetarian by rule yet there must be a tag for wilderbeasts.. let me check.

well pickle me french; toady obviously comes from a place that chuffs at such snobbyer as being exclusively vegetarian - there exists only [CARNIVORE] ; 'the creature only eats meat.'

'[nomeat]' does not do the opposite ; the creature can still eat meat; yet it will not drop meat for a hunter.

you have no option to make a creature vegetarian then perhaps.. Can someone else confirm this?

That is correct.  The only dietary restriction tags are [CARNIVORE] and [BONECARN].  There's no tag for making a creature unable or unwilling to eat meat, and ETHIC:EAT_ANIMAL is not a valid ethics definition in the entity file either.
