how deep do you discover caverns?

I'm really pissed off with caverns. I started 3 fortresses today and designated everything (multiple levels of bedrooms etc) ready just to see i discover cavern like 5 levels deep.... and abandoned those forts. :'(

Well, you can set the zlevels "Before level 1", and i'm pretty sure that works.

what do you mean? can I modify the raws or something so caverns are deeper

in your world gen you can chose how many llayers of only rock
and it is with the line "before level 1"

Since I like to start digging in mountains, it usualy takes around 30 z levels to get to them, if I did at "z level 0", it takes about 10.
