Cavern: huh?
« on: December 31, 2010, 08:47:16 pm »

So I discovered this cavern, and it is just so odd...

1. It spans from z level 90 down to -4.
2. Turns out it is cavern layer ONE.
3. It has no water, at least none I have seen so far.
4. It is just so totally different from all the other caverns I've seen that it makes this point valid as an explanation.

I want you guys to see it and tell me what you think, here is the link to the save from a little while after i discovered the cavern (one of the stoneworkers went into a mood, so don't be surprised to see those messages).

Tell me what you think of it, and not all of it is explored (I'm working on doing more right now), so explore more if you'd like.

EDIT: make that 15. Not sure what took that last one so long.

That is one awesome prisoner disposal.

I've had a 93 z-level cavern before.  Layers 2 and 3 below it were each only about 3 Z-levels in height.  Quite cramped.  This was on a volcano map.

Things got especially fun when I realized I had no water in my whole fort except for the stuff at the bottom of the cavern.  Construction of a massive pump-stack ensued.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

Yea each time I got an immigrant wave I used a different theme, untill for the last 2 i decided to use countries, as it would become quite entertaining if there was a tantrum spiral, so there are a LOT of totally random names, and the Urist Mc(something) ones are probably even more random. I was OUT of ideas...

Dug under the level 1 cavern, found level 2 cavern (it's actually more than 3 z-levels tall) at level -9, although it ends on -13. And there's water on this one.
