Help in creating Middle Eastern Game
« on: June 14, 2010, 03:48:30 am »

I am making a game based in the Middle East, inspired by Hidden Agenda. You play as the President of the Republic of Diwanaya. I didn't want to talk about it because then I could have abandoned the project if something more important comes up, but I meet up with a an obstacle here...

Quote
<Servant> Okay.
<Servant> I started work outlining a Hidden Agenda-sytle game
<Servant> *style
<Servant> where you play as a leader of a Middle Eastern country
<Servant> Two of the things you could do in that country is sign a treaty with Israel and intervene in the Lebanese Civil War
<Servant> Now, if you don't sign the treaty with Israel and intervene in the Lebanese Civil War, the United States will get angry and react violently. Put you on the state sponsors list of terrorism, for instance
<Servant> But if you sign the treaty with Israel and intervene in the Lebanese Civil War?
<Servant> Or if you refuse to sign the treaty with Israel and NOT intervene in the Lebanese Civil War/
<Servant> Uh...
<Servant> I don't know what would realistically happen in those situations

Uh, please help.

EDIT: I got some help here. I decide to just have the US' violent reaction be tied to relationship scores. If you intervene in Lebanon, you lose relation points with the US. If you refuse to sign a treaty with Israel, you lose relation points with the US. If you have very low relations with the United States, the US will attack you.

This sounds like a hard game to win.

This game has pretty much the same premise if you haven't tried it.

And yes it is hard to win.

Servant knows, he did a really good game based around it.

As for Israel/Lebanon, you could have them being separate events, or one tied to the other. As in, you intervene in Lebanon on Israels side, taking a heavy hit with your neighbors relations but upping US and Israel relations?

How detailed will this game be? I love Hidden Agenda, so this could be a treat :)

Little: I didn't think of the idea of having your intervention in Lebanon actually helping your relations with the US. However...Syria, an enemy of Israel, actually intervened to support the Maronites...the same side Israel supported too. And once Israel began the slow withdrawal from Lebanon after its costly intervention, Syria again supported the Maronites. So...yeah. I don't think the United States and Israel would really love ANY sort of Arab intervention, even they're fighting on the same side (because doing so would just make that Arab state stronger and threaten Israel), although I do need to do more research just to make sure.

The simulation won't really be detailed (no Cabinet or Influentials, only events), although it will keep a Verdict of History and the four newspapers.

After reading Hidden Agenda's own Reference Manual, I decided I need to create my own history of Diwayana, partially for my own reference and to ensure continuity. So that's what I'll do. I'll post the History in this thread once I'm done with it. Progress on the actual game is on hold until I finish the History, which should be quick.

Problem: My computer is currently broken due to a hardware issue. I will try to see if it is possible to recover the data, but if not I'll start from scratch.

Actually, I'm not too worried about the progress of the game, per se, all that would really mean is that I just rename the characters in it. I'm more concerned about re-writing the Diwayana's backstory and some of the chapters for my Caliphate book.

It is not possible to recover the data, so I guess it's time to start from scratch.  :-\

Also, the new game design idea I have will no longer be inspired by Hidden Agenda, for better or for worse. It's going to be a standard, conventional CYOA now.
