Axedwarf dislikes being taken off duty?
« on: December 22, 2010, 08:14:34 pm »

Every military dwarf I've ever had has always complained about "long patrol duty". This one is the exception. I chose her as my axe dwarf before the embark because of her great stats, but this still seems strange to me. Why would she not want to be taken off duty?

Once dwarves become axe-lords (and other lords) they will not want to be taken off duty. Also, all their labors will be turned off.

If a civilian is drafted into military duty and doesn't have good military skills they will "Complain about the draft" and "Complain about long patrol duty."

Conversely, if a military dwarf is taken off duty and doesn't have any notable civilian skills they will dislike being taken off duty.

A man would see that as a difficult challenge.
An elf would see that and despair.
A dwarf would see that and say, "Bring it on."

If you were kick ass, would you want to miss out on the next brawl?

She is a proficient axedwarf, but has no notable civilian skills. I think I found the problem.

Get her to be a legendary irish folk dancer, that way she should enjoy being off duty.

Give her a useful civ skill, like stone crafting or masonry, so she'll have something to do in the downtime.

I've had peasant militia who complained BOTH about long duty AND being taken off duty.

I finally figured out that the solution was to lower the minimum number of trainees in the schedule and always leave the group on duty. No one dwarf is on duty longer than they want.
