[38c] Bio-Friendly
« on: March 21, 2008, 10:01:00 am »

Introducing the new and improved 'Biodegradable Dwarf eXtreme!'  Rots in less than a second!  Perfect for all you water-contaminating needs!

NOTE:  This product contains small parts and a beard, keep out of reach of children and fish.

So here's the deal.  I've been sending group after group of migrants (who still come even with a pop cap of zero) to wrestle with the carp, and I started noticing something.  It seems that when a dwarf has some hunk of his flesh torn out of him by a fish (and so it drops into water as soon as it appears), it rots.  Bam.

There are six very fresh dwarf corpses in the river, and some very rotten dwarf chunks floating around in it as well.  It would appear that chunks rot instantly if water is the first thing they touch when, eh, "created".

Please note that getting a save of this will most likely be a bit difficult.  I'm playing a slightly modded version, but I can't remember all the changes I made.  Still though, it should be easy enough to test on its own.

Could be easy to test in adventure mode, I'll go ask a wolf to "assist" me =)

I'm not sure what water could have to do with it, but I think chunks are set to rot faster than normal items, and there might be something wrong with the timer.  I'll note it down.

I had a black bear "create" me a human chunk in the water and it didn't rot, but, maybe human flesh is waterproof?

waited for some time, never rotted, checked description and everything.

i'll try dwarfies next.

I only saw it in fortress mode, all the chunky bits I have found (and produced) in adv. mode worked just fine.

Hmm... Has anyone ever seen ANYTHING rot in advventure mode?  The time scale appears to be quite different, so you might have to wait a LOOONG time.
