Disabled noble
« on: December 21, 2010, 06:03:10 am »

Finally i got appointment for barony. I was looking through dwarves list and desided to choose my hunter with cripped leg.
I think he's perfect candidate - he'll spend all his life at hospital, so no need for quarters, no mandates as he's always unconscious...

Any contras?

He won't ever be able to meet with diplomats/outpost liasons.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.

Uh.
Well, when I need to make a meeting, I'll have to fire him from that position.

If you're making any progress wealth and constructed wealth wise, he'll already be up for promotion to count next year which won't work seing he's perma resting, you'll regret it by then. Rather choose a dwarf who likes common materials and isn't otherwise useful.

Choose a hauler that likes common rocks, dogs, and other really common things. It's the best route to go.

no mandates as he's always unconscious...

Are you absolutely certain that this is the case?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

There have been reports of dying, unconscious nobles making mandates as they bleed out their last. The selfish pricks are demanding clear glass axes til the end.

Everyone knows dwarves pass knowledge through a mass collective, fueled by alcohol. Hence their inability to sustain themselves over long periods with water; they lose the dwarven empathic connection, and become singular and... sane. Which in turn drives them crazy!

Is there any way to appoint a different noble, then? My baroness had her leg lobbed off by my captain of the guard (in a fit of rage) and she seems to be permanently bedridden. If I have to cave her in I will be royally pissed, she's one of only 5 remaining of the starting 7.

They will still mandate from their unconscious state, and be aware they don't have the palatial room of their dreams assigned to them.

Related: I had a mayor who was also chief medic. When he got un-mayored, his mandate still remained in the office of chief medic. Is this intended behavior?  :o
