How do I get out of a river?

I've fallen into this river and have been swimming for a LONG time looking for a slope to get out from. The Alt+(move) doesn't work because the river is too deep, so is there any way I can get out? Maybe some sort of hack?

alt-move is the way to go. You need to be near the river bank to do so, and you should be NOT drowning.

I've been in a few rivers that didn't have any short banks.  The solution seems to be to swim down the river all the way to the ocean, where you're guaranteed to have beaches to climb out.

1. Use Alt + move in a direction. This doesn't work if you're drowning so you're either dead or you need to get some Swimming skill fast.

2. If the water you're in is more than a z-level deep, you need to swim until you find some ramps leading up or something.
