« on: December 21, 2010, 07:47:16 pm »

ok im sure that my father bought me a laptop this one to be exact: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115862&cm_re=acer_aspire-_-34-115-862-_-Product

im pretty sure i can play DF on it, got bigger L2 cache than my old 478pin celeron and DDR3 memory, just does anyone know if there is a MXM slot on this laptop (slot used for graphics cards)?

If it doesn't say so on the box, I wouldn't bet on it. Laptops are known to remove things that aren't necessarily needed in the names of cost, complexity, battery life, and size.

As for running dwarf fortress, it all depends on what FPS you want. this game is rather unique in being somewhat playable at 5-10 fps. I unfortunately don't know how to guess what you would get at any point.

I play DF on a netbook. I reduce embark size to 2x2, increase that FPS escape thing to 15 or so, and limit dwarves to 100. Embarking in an aquifer instead of a river helps. If you're willing to put a popcap of 50-60 you'll be able to embark anywhere, in fact, and stay over 40 fps

edit: I forgot to mention: I also reduced cavern layers in worldgen from 3 to 1

i know the 7552 has a chip so maybe they left it in? (its more expensive to make different variants of boards then just leaving it in)

On an atom Processor? Call me impressed.

I see no fault, I just wouldn't rely on it being that way unless it says so explicitly. Unfortunately I'm at the limits of my knowledge here :).

laptop companies never tell you becuase you are not suppose to be able to upgrade with the MXM cards but its possible and done many times.
