Would this make an decent dwarf killing machine?
« on: December 17, 2010, 02:13:15 pm »

Okay, there would be this switch, and in front of the switch would a floorhatch/trapdoor.
Pulling the switch would open the trapdoor, making them fall a few Zlevels into a starvation chamber where the spend the rest of their hungry lives making trade goods?

Ok, if they are pulling the lever themselves and the trapdoor is in front of them, how do they fall in?

And a fall would probably kill/seriously injure them already.

No, as they pull the lever, they are standing on the door

It can't be on the same tile as the lever.

I don't think you can fit lever and a trapdoor on the same square...?

But a dwarfy idea anyways. If there was a way of activating automated magma flush after the dwarf starved though......

Hatch won't work. It has no delay between signal and work, so it'll open while dwarf standing on the lever tile.
Use bridge instead, dwarf will take some steps on it and then it drops.

I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

If you want to lock immigrants in a room and have them make crafts till they die for some bizarre reason, what's wrong with using a burrow and a locked door?

Pff, burrows are for wimps. Just place a dragon outside the door and the dwarf will be too afraid to come out.

If there was a way of activating automated magma flush after the dwarf starved though......

just cover all routes from the raw materials to workshops with pressure plates, which are linked to a 1 minute water repeater- if at least one pressure plate isn't triggered every minute, the repeater will stop and lower a bridge that floods the chamber with MAGMA

this is what i do. Give them a room a large room with a bridge taht retracts and let them fall a bunch of z levels into spikes.

or drop them into a dwarf made lake.

ironicly i called this the deluxe suite room (it has a statue of the goddess of death in there) :)

Build a platform out of floors extending over a big pit, put a lever at the end. At the beginning of the platform, put a support linked to the lever, holding up a floor tile.
So, build this:
Code: [Select]
=O^
=I+++++L
=
= - stable floor
+ floor over a pit
I - support on a floor over a pit
O - wall
^ - ramp
L - lever (also over the pit)

Then build a floor on top of the support, remove the wall and ramp, and link the lever to the support.

When the lever is pulled, the floor tile held up with the support will fall down - taking out the floor holding up the platform, which will then collapse. Use a burrow to put as many victims on the platform as you want. You could also build a cage and put unwanted animals in, if the pit is over magma. Which it should be.
