Necro Questions
« on: May 31, 2020, 05:29:57 pm »

I had a necromancer migrate to my fortress, and I ran into a few things I'd like some clarification on if thats possible..
1. how do I tell what kind of special effect intelligent undead raised by my necro have?
2. why did my necro raised normal undead proceed to turn on their master?

1. Observation or DFHack investigations are the only options.
2. It often happens, although I don't think the exact reason is fully known.

Generally with intelligent undead (although as with any bugs, weird exceptions may occur), enemies of the fort who would attack you on sight in life, will continue to do so while undead. So (generally) it's fine to raise your own fine citizens (assuming they weren't taking part in a loyalty cascade when they died) but not invaders.

Non-intelligent zombies will tend to attack on sight (necromancers in fortresses being an accidental feature right now). Livestock won't ever be intelligent, so don't raise them (maybe pets will? Needs Science). Your dwarves generally will be intelligent. But sometimes not.
