Reclaim fortress
« on: December 08, 2006, 08:56:00 pm »

I cant remember where but i saw someone mention that the entire river and chasm and magma is revieled in the reclaim. I want to add to that by saying that it also changes the waterfalls and chasm bits that pop up near the waterfalls turn into river spots instead of being waterfalls.

Iv also just noticed that all areas in my fortress that i had planned out as to be mined were all mined out even though it wasnt mined yet. I may be wrong and need to double check this though.

Yeah, the conversion was intentional, but that was for adventure mode (I didn't get to displaying waterfalls in the rotated view).  The adventure mode conversion has some unfortunate effects in reclaim mode.

I'd check the mining thing again.  I'm not sure how it could mine them out.

Wow just noticed you cant reclaim a fortress unless you have dug into the wall.

You have to have a certain amount of success with your fortress before you can reclaim it.  Getting through the wall is an important first step.

I think it would be difficult to gather a party of 7 battle-worn dwarven warriors to go reclaim  a cliff.

Yeah, but the rhetoric would be completely different in that case.

This would be how you would recruit people to found a new fortress:
"Brothers! Too long have we been oppressed by the taxes and facist laws of our so called 'nobility'! Let us set forth, so we might found a new fortress following the socialist philosophies of Karl Ironfoundersson, a fort that would look after the working dwarf, rather than the bourgeois social elite!"

And this is how you would recruit people to reclaim an old fortress:
"A'right lads! Lets go an' bash us some goblin 'eads!"

If there was no goblin 'eads to bash, you wouldn't be able to recruit people for the reclaiming, but you wouldn't be able to appeal to the socialist dwarves, either - Ironfounderssonism would be out of fashion because of its failure at the old fort, and the dwarven followers of the new socialist philosophy wouldn't want to associate themselves with the old Ironfounderssonist groups.

Or something like that.
