I love pulling off headstab insta-kills with swords, I always imagine them looking like this:

Picks are pretty deadly. It's not hard to find one early on and train up to a decent level, just invest in Fighter and defensive skills at character generation instead, that'll tide you over. Generally you can sneak into a bandit camp, past all the mooks and steal a pick from under their noses.

I like Spears for their megabeast-killing power. Axes and swords are good for dismembering smaller enemies. Whips are crazy, I usually don't use them because they just work so weirdly but they're definately good at crippling enemies with pain and damaged bones. Hammers and maces are weaker than the other weapons IMO but still useful, and good just for the crunch-love if nothing else.

well that's funny after checking combat preferences it works fine. I was using .18 the whole time btw

yeah picks are deadly. I just got one from a fallen comrade... and one-hit-kill dudes through any part of the main body ("upper" and "lower body") or head.
