33e, Fey Peasant constructs armor rack at masons worksho
« on: December 10, 2007, 03:15:00 pm »

A peasant that I had assigned to mining went into a strange mood, and proceded to take over my masons workshop. He grabbed the materials he needed (some microline) and proceded to construct a microline weapon rack. After I saw him go into a mood, I switched him over to Mason, assuming that when he was done, he was going to be a Legendary Mason. Not so, it seems. Upon completion of his artifact, he has become a Legendary Miner instead.... and not a speck of Mason skill to his name.

This same issue has already been brought up in another thread.

It's not a bug; a dwarf without any preexisting skills will pick a random skill to use for their fey mood, and mining is one of those possibilities. Since mining normally doesn't create anything, a mason's workshop is used to create a stone item.

I don't see it as a big problem either so I'm not really complaining about it. There's no other way for a dwarf to become a legendary miner short of months of practice, after all.

It's based on their skills, not their profession, and if the peasant didn't have any relevant skills, it picks one at random.  Oddly enough, miner is one of the skills it considers relevant, so it chose that.
