Herbalist in a fey mood!
« on: December 08, 2010, 11:10:52 pm »

So, i've got a herbalist in a fey mood - What should i build? I'd like to avoid staging a unfortunate accident for it if possible, i don't want to start a tantrum spiral...

To give this post a bit more content, what's the best way to deal with classes that have no apparent fix for Strange Moods, in your opinion?

If a dwarf doesn't have a moodable profession, they will just take a craft dwarves workshop. IF your dwarf isn't going to a crafting workshop, they most have some skill in a moodable profession.

Check what other skills your dwarf has, they may be a proficient herbalist and a talented glass maker, therefore they would want a glass furnace(?).

So if their primary skill is something that wont benefit from a mood they see what else they are good at doing. if there is nothing else they will take a craft workshop as said above

Glass Furnace. Not a magma powered one though

A man would see that as a difficult challenge.
An elf would see that and despair.
A dwarf would see that and say, "Bring it on."

Urist McStrangeMood has made Etessanad, a Obsidian Miniforge. I just found out that miniforges are actually pretty useless...

Except now your fortress is worth more, and some noble may take it to make themself very happy.  Just take care that it isn't stolen.

As a note, most people will draft their dwarves (the ones who you will be using in unmoodable ways, like farming and mining) into the Weaponsmithing line of work.  Once they become novice weaponsmithers, just send them back on their normal line of duties.  If they hit a mood later on in life, they'll use a Blacksmith's Forge, resulting in a shiny artifact weapon.

along with all other crafts.  I really need to do one of those forts with an entrance gauntlet for miners.  I hate craft moods.  It would be cool though if my head noble could wear the artifact jewelry set i've created in this fort.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I think they still take it and stash it in their coffers though.  Perhaps that's only if the economy is in effect (which is broken in the new versions?).

Can you assign jewelry as a part of a uniform? It should be wearable, at least judging by the human skin bracelets I remember seeing back in the day. If not, you could always have kobolds steal it so they'll start ambushing you.

If you knock a goblin's tooth out, does it become ivory? Is it called goblin ivory or goblin tooth when it's savescummed into an amulet?

Except now you have a Legendary Stonecrafter. Can be a good way to produce high value trade goods like goblets, if you use higher value stone like metal ores.
