A dog fell in the river. And then it had puppies.
« on: October 30, 2007, 09:26:00 am »

a dog fell into the surface river and sank down to the bottom. I can see it on the first subterranean z-level. It didn't drown, despite being submerged in 7 units of water, with 7 more units of water in the square above it.

Then it had puppies. They're all underwater with it. They don't move around - they're happy to sit on the bottom of the river forever, it would seem, in the same space.

I'm worried how many puppies are eventually going to end up there, if she has puppies every year.

Just wait; like a time capsule, leave the dog beneath the river. Many years from now, perhaps some mining accident will block up the river, it's waters draining away, revealing some fish, underwater plants, and a superdense ball of 10000 loyal doggies. Then there shall be much feasting.

dogfish!

I'll be here all week

What happens if you tell your guys to butcher the puppies? Will they swim down and try to drag them back up?

Unless, of course, the dogs implode into a black hole first.

"You know, Lokum, ever since you accidentally dug into that damp stone wall, it's been practically raining cats and dogs here!"

I know!

You have to dig the dogs out from there and rescue them! Then you are being treated as a hero!

Are the 7s above brightly colored?  That's just showthrough from the level below.  Does [k] register two water 7/7 in both the upper and lower level?  They could just be swimming.  All surface rivers are currently one level deep.

I have a War Dog in the water now too. She wrestled and killed a lamprey.

I can only see her from the -1 Z level.

When I hit "k" it reads in order -color of text

War Dog (Tame) - in white
sea lamprey corpse - in that greenish brown color of farm plots
River - in blue
Water [7/7] -in blue

At Z 0. It reads
open space -in blue

I can not see the river or the dog in Z -2.

14th malachite for reference later.

Hmmm maybe this is the way to get rid of all these killer fish... I shall call this method the "doggy depth charge"!

Update.

The war Dog lasted about a month in the water. She killed another fish (a pike) and then lost a match with the 2nd lamprey. She didn't drown, (I'm pretty sure)

Now I have fish bones and dog bones in my water. But the bigger bug is the dog who won't get out of the water..

edit to add. At no time was the dog shown blue (underwater) in the units screen. And neither was one of the fish she had knocked un-conscious at the time....
