Before the sprawl got introduced, I embarked on year 2. All the civs are alive and no history to contaminate my decorations. Correction: any history on my decorations are events I made happen, be it in fortress mode or adventurer mode. Now that sprawl is here, I like to wait until year 100 for adventurer worlds. Haven't tried a serious fort in quite a while so don't know what I'd want - less ambitious worldgen = quicker load times. Whether that includes the end year I'm not sure.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Celem, i too try and keep 1 world going for as long as I can; i find as you make your own history (starting in a young year) that when you're on your 5th fortress it's fun having your dwarfs engrave things from your other fortresses; instead of some random dude made in world gen.

Flawed argument. I've embarked on year 1 and all my dwarves were much older than 1. So it stands to reason that there's no arbitrary start of age at year 1. A dragon might already have lived half it's life or more.

Also: megabeasts die out, but the strong survive? Strong what, exactly? No, I think it's the lucky that survive. Lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

No, it is YOU who is flawed.  Seriously you think that the game would start everyone age at 1? So the first mega beast they come in contact to just slaughters the children.  NAAAY!!! i say, while age for civs generate at random; the year at year 1 IS the beginning of that pecticular world.

Guys I see a lot of !SCIENCE! coming from this.  First

The plan:
Mod dragon to high frequency
Build fort capable (as far as dwarfs are capable) sustaining themselves without supervision
Capture dragons
Dedicate CPU core.
Keep running in background for hundreds of dwarf years.
Do dragons breed?
/!Science!

Cull the weaker ones for food = happy dwarfs

That is a good one to figure out, I will assist in this,  also I do believe megabeast become stronger over time; obviously this game is SOO incredible random; that not everything is going to be consistent.  Just because you bonefied a monster with 200 kills; did you read it's kills? did it slaughter and army of dogs? rofl. kill's doesn't have to do with how strong they are,  some megabeast start next to towns and you read in legends they do a lot of killing; while as your dragon with no kills was probably underground it's whole life till you saw it.

I think the other !SCIENCE! project here is to see, if in general; later embarks, higher years = stronger monsters.  This will take a lot of testing; because we all know about forgotten beasts of the spoon made of mud who's attacks get deflected from silk clothing.  Also which megabeast besides the dragon grows? magma wiki has a lot of info already figured out, but there is still much to be learned.

This thread i hereby pronouce it in the name of !SCIENCE! everyone go forth and conduct experiments.  I will be making a super advance world gen map; I'm going to jack megabeast; semi; titans; and evil squares; saveragy; and civs sky guy.  this should allow for easier testing.  let me know if i should change anything.  Honestly i think if we can come up with 1 map that we all use; but set it to different dates; then we can actually figure some things out.  because if we are all using different maps; then everything is to RANDOM to get any clear answers.

Prehaps you should research before you act like a douchebag.
Aww did I step on someone's toeseys?

Yep, I hold a strong dislike for those annoying Elitists you see everywhere who act like they know everything and snipe at people subtly as if they're something they're not. If you'd like this to become an argument, private messaging is cool.

Dragons don't have the [CHILD:X] tag in their raws, so they will not and cannot breed.  I think other tags might be needed but that particular bit sticks out.

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!
