I hate haveing to travel down to reach the magma sea and then haveing to tunnle past all the caves ¬¬ and then digging through them only to experiance FUN cause i dont have a good military, so does anyone know the best way to generate a volcan or do the magma veins still exist in the game?

Volcano calderas are visible on the embark map as a double red tilde.  '~' Find those and you should see if a volcano is listed on the embark screen.

That'll get  you lava at the surface (usually) and a bunch of fauna-based !!fun!!.

alternatively, generate a world with 200 volcanos, should be rather easy to find one in a spot you like.

There are "tubes" up to varying levels in the caverns, but you can't tell where you'll find one from the surface/world map.

btw its a bit bugged, sometimes you will see volcanoes before embarking and not actually get them, sometimes the opposite thing

Or, you can use this one I just made, there's a couple flat volcanoes, and a flat/sand/river in a big red desert to the left of start.

if you don't want to play around with world gen parameters, and the volcanoes are all on innacessible mountaintops, you would do well to try embarking on sites with igneous rock like obsidian, andesite, or basalt.  harder to find flux here (except marble), but they have higher volcanism, which means you have a decent chance of finding a magma pipe that extends well above the magma sea even if it doesn't break the surface.

Or you go to advanced world gen and set the minimal amout of volcano's a bit higher.
