Jailed Insane Dwarves

Jailed dwarves that go insane are considered animals, so if they were placed in a cage, they aren't automatically released. Is this intended?

I imagine so, if the dwarf you're speaking of is Berserk.  Whenever a dwarf changes from a face into a @, they're no longer considered a 'person'.  They're essentially the same as a captured goblin and will not be released from a cage unless it is set up to a lever.

Who can blame the dwarves for not setting free a berzerker!

Yeah, I guess you'll need a cage if you want to move them around.

He wasn't berserk though, he was just insane, running around babbling.

The dwarves will treat any untame animal with caution.

So Fortress Guards aren't people?  I always suspected!

The intruder arose, casting off its black cloak.  "Behold, stunted jesters!  It is I, Scuro!"  A jagged scar marked the goblin's face from eye to chin, his greasy mane gray and wild, and about his neck was the broken silver amulet, strapped together by a leather band.
