Dwarfineering awaits the glorious day when we can smash entire goblin armies into the ceiling, use a series of moving walls to force megabeasts into the arena, create mining lifts and makeshift conveyor belts, and submerge a dwarven submarine.

Boats are the big thing for me. Moving fortress parts will be awesome (for my aforementioned bird-flipping, siege-breaking-finger device) but if Toady (armok be with him) makes boats work as I hope they will, I'll name my first-born after Dwarf Fortress (whether the mother likes it or not).

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Urist makes a great name for a child.

"Dad, why you have called me Urist?"

"Because that means 'dagger'."

"...so you want me to stab you or something?"

It'd revolutionize the ghetto name industry.  "Oh, so you named your child after some ancient warrior from Africa?  Well, I named mine after freakin' Aweminade Cacame."

Urist is indeed a wonderful name. You can be assured he shall end up in a metal band almost by default.

A fortress built upon a single lift. Goblin siege? Lower it into the ground. Sure, some might get stuck on the roof if it comes up early, but that's part of the fun.
