Path not found at eat time
« on: September 28, 2006, 06:15:00 am »

Toady et al.,

I think I may have found out why many dwarves grab food and then stand around complaining that they can't find a path.  I started a second dining room because my first one was too small (I thought) and now they have two dining rooms to choose from.  It appears that the dwarves can't decide which dining room and go to both which they can't do and get the path not found error.

Toady:  could you look at this at your leisure and let me know if my conjecture is right.  I can get you a save if you want.  I'm running 0.21.105.21a.

The workaround I tried was to assign the dining room to the confused dwarf until they sat down to eat and then they didn't starve.  I'm also going to try to leave one of the dining rooms assigned to one person to see if that gets them unconfused.

--Well, I guess I'm an idiot.  After the dwarf I assigned to the one legendary dining room couldn't get in, I checked the door to see if somehow it got locked and it wasn't.  However there was a full grown tower cap in front of the door which seemed to block it.  So as long as everyone else is using the other dining room, all is well.  I have the tower cap scheduled to be cut down/picked.

Still, when a tower cap grows up it recalculates the levels and they shouldn't go for the inaccessible room.  I guess it might be the same thing that makes the dwarves go after nobles rooms sometimes, even after they are locked.
