Moltencrew, a newbish community fort.
« on: November 21, 2010, 01:30:09 pm »

It was almost a full year ago my father made his mistake.     it was a simple one,  a mere misplaced decimal point.  but it was so large in it's effects.
The mayor of Lorbamsavot hired him to oversee the construction of an experimental Hyper Magma Pump (HMP), and he succeeded.  he breached the magma see and began to pump it up to the surface in an astonishing rate.   but because of that miscalculation, it flowed to fast, and to high.   in a mere few seconds, it had overflowed the reservoir and geysered up into the air.  and entire section of the city had to be evacuated until the damage was fixed.   my father was condemned (post magma entombment) for his mistake, adn the family name cast into shame.     Mother, myself, and my sister were forced to flee to Amalaban, Lorbamsavot's sister city to the north.

here, I have been given a chance to reclaim my fathers mistake.   the HMP has stabilized, and has stopped growing.  but should it reactivate, it would threaten the road connecting the two cities, not to mention potentially blocking the river between them and flooding them both.    My self and six other dwarfs have volunteered to establish a work camp between the cities.   Seal the HMP permanently, and if possible, tap it's glorious magma.    should we succeed, we will be rich, and my family name cleared.   we shall name it Stesokginet, Molten crew.

felt like writing, so I though I would give a community game a try.  very open for advice.

embankment is currently all the standard gear/food minus one axe,  2 cats, and 2 war dogs.   no talents set yet for the dwafs.  any suggestions of what talents the dwarfs should start with would be appreciated, and 6 dwarfs are open for dwarfing.

Like the story, nice take on the starting location.

You got black sand and a volcano, go glass oriented?  If so start with a glassmaker.

Nice calm location so you can probably skip embarking with a military dwarf.  The story implies yer going to be doing some kind of construction, mega-projecty stuff perhaps, might want to start with a mechanic, if ya do then name him Celem :).

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

Granite 2nd:
oh Armok,  this is not a good start.   a small swarm of 7 buzzards decended upon us shortly after we arrived.  the war-dogs have killed one and are trying to kill the second,  but I doubt they will win against all 7.    we are rushing to get a small burrow dug out and move the supplies inside.

Granite  4th:

4 of the buzzards are dead.   one of the war dogs is quite wounded, and I am worried that it might die.
still, the buzzards they brought down will serve as a handy suplment for our food supply.   I have set up a buchers shop next tot he waggon to process them.
in other news, the intial storage area is dug out, and we have begun moving everything indoors.  hopefully, we can finish befor the buzzards manage to kill a dwarf.

Slate 1st:
and excellent start to a new month.  everything has been moved indoors finally, and an impromptu meeting hall and dromantory have been set up.   more improtanly, a workshop area has been set up, a channel dug, and the HMP has been successfully tapped.  In a few short weeks we Klin will be ready to stat producing glass we shall need to cap the HMP.

while we are waiting for that, we shall dig a bit deeper and set up some proper housing for the workforce, along with some farms to feed us.

Felsite 21st:
It's been a while since I wrote in this, but progress is going well.  the lower dorm is almost finished, and the last lever or the farm floodgates is almost connected.      once these are completed, our major concerns will have been taken care of and we can begin capping the HMP.
the glass furnace has started producing green glass blocks for this effort, though we lack enough bags to run it at full speed.

I wonder when the workers we were promised will arrive.

Hematite 26th:
Catten Domasedem, who was to supply us with out food from our newly created farms,  tragically died during the deconstruction of the old bridge.    I am at a loss, as this is a major setback to our plans.   I will think on this overnight, and seek to decide the next course of action.

I can only hope the new workers get here soon.
