Bay12 I could use some advice

After a massive tantrum spiral my fortress dropped population from 189 dwarfs to 2 dwarf children. In less than a season. A murderous party animal has risen up and killed one of the kids. Now what are the odds my last dorf is gonna buy it?

btw my fort is also undergoing a catsplosion b/c i literally cant do anything about it AND the kid is adopting ALL OF THEM

Wait for next (possible) migrant wave, build an Atom Smasher and smash the kid. Then stuff the cats in a cage and smash them too. Two problems with one hit.  And quite dwarfy too.

rename the child the king of cats
children can remove constructions, so use that to occupy his time if you have dangerous creature wandering around
just have him remove tons of constructed things in between drink and food breaks (if you have enough) and you should be fine
I'm not entirely sure if they can pull levers, but if you have a drawbridge, it never hurts to try
just keep him away from monsters and you should be ok
I don't know what you can do with the cats until migrants arive

I was hoping to kill the cats and save the kid. Turn him into an engraver and see what messed up drawings he makes. Also this is not the first time this fort has been down to a single dorf. I kinda wanna keep this ball rolling.

Then again my civ symbol is a forgotten beast, they must be pretty messed already.

if you kill the cats, he will just tantrum and you will lose

if possible just lock him in a room with food and booze to keep him happy, then when the migrants come drop all the cats down a hole. the kid may freak out but he will be in lockdown (that is, if you lock the door) then you got rid of the cats and still have the kid, though he may be messed up after.

Given the death rate of dwarfs under the control of a new player, it's safe to say that ghosts wouldn't be a spoiler past the presumably quick demise of one's first fort. The other spoilers take quite a bit more expertise to get.

So a lone child sees his entire home destroyed. All of his friends are suddenly gone, and he is alone in a fortress haunted by ghosts. The only thing he can take comfort in is taking care of the many cats that lost their owners.

Our response? Smash him with a drawbridge. God I love this game.

Check his profile, if somewhere around his profile it says 'he doesn't really care anymore' then you have the perfect dwarf. I had a military who slept on the floor and was on patrol duty when not sleeping, yet he was still content. Never happy, never angry.

Oh wow, I was confused too but I just thought he meant a loose animal.
