I found the best way to clean my laptop keyboard was to remove it.

Wait, you're cleaning a desktop keyboard? Just disassemble the whole thing, clean it and reassemble, much easier than prying out keys. There's like 8 screws that are holding a keyboard together, and it's virtually impossible to mess up the reassembly.

Huh. Too late now, but I'll keep that in mind next time I have to do it.

I hope you can put the keys back on, some keyboards (like built in keyboards for laptops) aren't designed to allow the keys to be easily taken off and put back on.

As for cleaning, wipe it out?
Actually laptop keyboards are easier to remove and replace keys than a standard keyboard.  I rearranged my keys into the Dvorak layout before I got stickers for Dvorak and re-rearranged my keys to be back to QWERTY and then get the stickers put on them.  (Just, don't ask why.  The answer is this:  I am a nerd.)  And most keyboards should let you place keys back in just make sure the springs aren't out of place slightly.  You can use compressed air, a cloth, etc.  I recommend alcohol or acetone or MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone) to clean it if you need a solvent.  Most of the gunk in there is sold matter which the cloth can get out easily.

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

This reminds me of the time that a friend and I pried out the keys of a school computer and rearranged them to the ABCD format.  Great prank for unskilled typists...

Heh. That's nothing. Back in high school, someone found a whole closet full of broken keyboards, and made all the working ones monolettered. (Put all "a" in one keyboard, all "b" in another, etc.) Hillariously, they got caught.
