What it says, you actually need wooden logs to make Obsidian short swords. Only the blade is Obsidian, the handle is made of wood. If you do have wood in store, check that your craftsdwarf can get to it, and that nothing is blocking his way.

I happened to be watching my craftsdwarf earlier today while he was making Obsidian SW and he used both wood and obsidian.

I'll treat it as normal then. I just never noticed them using wood during the process before.
