Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections

Make sure the various LAN and wireless are enabled. Just because it's plugged in doesn't mean the hardware is on. The software probably disabled it.

Upon hunting through the COntrol Panel the only thing I saw was that the ethernet cord does not handle IPv6 connectivity, but as mentioned earlier it is the same cord I am using right now.

And I asked earlier, but would using my recovery disks eliminate this problem even if it were a virus?

Go into the control panel and click on the View network and status tasks options
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Then you want to click on adapter settings
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Finally you want to left click on your adapters and see if there is a menu option to enable the current adapter
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
If that fails then you  might need to post more screens of information.
Specifically see if you can glean anything by using the diagnose tools.

Wait, that the cord doesn't handle it? Are you sure about that? Try to use the exact wording you saw.

Edit: I also got this when I tried it again.

I tried readding chrome to my permitted programs but the problem persists. I think I'm going to go the recovery disk route.

This post brought to you by: My laptop.

Only problem now is McAfee Realtime Scanning won't stay on, so I'm going to take it to school and my significantly more computer literate friend should be able to assist me. I hope it isn't like that XKCD comic about the tech support bible.

In the meantime I intend to only visit sites I have never had problems with and I'll run a full system scan when I go to bed. Any ideas what could be causing that?

As well I ran a Windows Defender scan and it eliminated one piece of malware.

That browser error page is generic enough to be meaningless.

Try doing this instead: In a command prompt (Run -> cmd) type "nslookup google.com" (or whatever other address) and see it it resolves to an IP address. If it does, then type "ping google.com" (or whatever) and see if that times out.

Of course, it seems like your internet connection is completely disconnected, so that's moot at this point.

Uh, no the internet is working now, I just reverted to my last recovery point before I tried installing it, and it works now but my original AV is a little odd, it says 'Script checking is off' and so my real time scanning is not working... I'm looking through the Help to see if I can figure it out myself.

EDIT: Followed the Help, updated my AV that was set back by the restoration, seems OK now.

I should know if it worked tomorrow, thank you for you help everyone.
