Opening a chest?
« on: November 14, 2010, 12:33:20 am »

So, I'm new to adventure mode and just killed a bandit who had a chest sitting around at his little camp. How do I go about opening it up? Also, does anyone know what empathy, social awareness, and the other more esoteric attributes do, if anything?

I've never used this command, but... according to the ? menu, 'r' removes an item you are wearing or from a container.

I'm pretty sure most of the mental attributes have no use in adventurer mode yet, but I once min-maxed my adventurer's stats by lowering his memory. Every time I came back to an area after I explored it, it was blacked out again.

I'm pretty sure you actually need to use the [g]et command.

Spacial Sense and Kinsthetic Sense have an effect on accuracy and dodging, but the other mental attributes don't do anything yet.

I think [g]et just picks up the chest. 'p' puts items in containers, and 'r' removes them.

Yes, but if you are on the tile with the chest you can just use g to remove items in the chest. Items in the chest will have an asterisk before them, or something similar, to denote they are from inside it.

Cool, got it all set, thanks guys. Also, is there a way to attach a bag to my clothes like my backpack is so that I can carry more stuff?

You can just throw bags in your backpack and they'll still expand your carrying capacity.  Careful though, more weight slows you down.

Am I the only one who was kinda expecting the OP to mean "best way to rip open a chest <cavity> to extract the steaming, delicious entrails of my foes"?

Spacial Sense and Kinsthetic Sense have an effect on accuracy and dodging, but the other mental attributes don't do anything yet.

This, and Willpower determines how much pain you can take before passing out.

Not only pain, it also helps you not to pass out when you are overexert.

Intuituon is sometimes helpful too because it increases the usefulness of your Observer skill which allows you to spot sneaking things. It is rarely needed but sometimes it saves life (in case of sneaking spiders).

Well according to the "Your First Adventurer" guide in the game itself, Observer is also used in combat. It might have some effect on the accuracy of your attacks, or the odds of you finding opportunities with aimed attacks.

I just pick up the whole chest. I have a maple chest I carry around with several thousand coins in it.  :D

If you use the (g)et command you can pick things up from inside the chest, or you can get the whole chest and (r)emove stuff from it.
