no plants from "2nd hand water" - answered, ig
« on: September 18, 2006, 02:33:00 pm »

I wanted to make an indoor forest, but I also wanted some hallways "going thru" the forest in case I needed or wanted the space above the forest;

resulting in no plants in the rooms that get water channeled into them.

I doubt this is intentional, but you never know ;o

Actually this has nothing to do with the water being channeled. Trees and plants will only grow a certain distance left and right of the river, and it looks like your rooms happen to be built over that boundary. I'm not sure if that's the final behaviour though.

strange.. i had indoor farms pretty much from 1st (solid) tile into the cliff all the way to the cave river and they grew plants and saplings.. though they all had floodgates linked to the same channel (connected to either outdoor or cave river.. did both).

mind you.. i've never flooded to the right of the river...

That reminds me of one thing I've been meaning to ask: is there any point in leaving muddy-not-farmed areas (in hope of seeing towercaps) when doing outside-river-farming?

In a way, it's already answered in this thread, but the answers are contradictory.  rawr's problem and Gurney's post seem to imply no (no "wild" cave-plants away from the cave river), yet bbb seems to be saying that this has worked for him...

Oh, and what's with the green lowercase tau just southeast of the lever in rawr's map.  It looks like a plant - but the ground around it isn't muddy.

it looks like it was flooded before and some shrubs/tree saplings (that's a sapling btw) grew in certain spots.. the floor dried in the rest of the tiles turning them white again.. but the tiles where things grew are now permanently mud/dirt

... it's not impossible for the viable plant area mentioned to be so "big" that in my case, the combined areas from both rivers cover all my farm spots. never did count the area size.

Yup. I've blocked the hole now with floodgates, as can be seen, but 1 or 2 floodings did get into those hallways before I did that.
