Extremely minor - lowest level unrevealed space random c
« on: June 11, 2008, 10:01:00 pm »

When unrevealed, the lowest level of the map has random symbols just like any other unrevealed underground area.  However, on the lowest level the symbols aren't arranged nearly as nicely as they are on every other level.  Instead of being scattered with little clustering, they tend to be arranged in long lines, like ",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,".

Probably an off-by-one error in whatever routine creates them.

I'm pretty sure this isn't really a bug, I've always had it since we started with Z-levels, there's no real problem with them being there since almost noone looks at the lowest level anyway.

It's actually an issue with the random number system Toady uses that on occasion produces less-than-random results. Shouldn't have any important impact on the game, though.

It's still a bug, even if it's minor or doesn't really affect gameplay.

Not sure what causes it, but random generators are always a little wonky at times.

Took me quite a while to figure out this was a bug, though.  I kept mining out the marked areas, thinking it meant they were near gems/veins.  An early discovery of opal made it plausible...

Actually, I had the reverse initial reaction.  I avoided those spots like the plague, until I was ready for trouble.

seems rather similar to the overland height-mapping issue.  the lower right hand corner almost always has 0's for hight variance until you get into the mountains.

Is it a bad sign that I purposefully deface masterwork engravings because I understand the importance of the throwing skill?

Am I that unusual in building a necropolis on the lowest level? In my last fortress, it was probably the most extensively mined out level, maybe excluding the one just below the entrance.

I tend to use the bottom for sleeping quarters, though this time around it's where I put my farms.
