Pathfinding/stockpiles?
« on: November 09, 2010, 08:17:38 am »

OK so i'm usign a fortress design I'm liking at the momement

Rough summery of layers/layout
Surface (With a trade depo in a walled off area, and soon a web of  floor to shoot down at my enemies)
Sand Tree Farm (Includes goblin loot stockpiles, weapons armour)
Sand Tree Farm
Sedimentriey layers Including small dining) - THius will be my future rich mines
1st carvern
Farms
various layers
2nd
various layers
3rd caverns
 graveyard
Housing,
Housing, Grand Dining rooms
Furniture workshop
some very light storage.
Stone Layers
Weapon/Furniture (Metal Only)/Ammo/armour
Bar/Ore
Magma Furnaces/Smelters/Forges

So the basic Idea of layout is
There are grand mines in the sedementry layers and then the massed pesentry cart it down to the ore stockpiles,
and then the  (half dozen odd) furnaces turn it into bars, which are carted up one layer to the the piles above, and then my my metal crafters would churn out hundreds of gold thones, nickle bins, silver cages and steel armour and weapons.

Now this has worked before,
but this time, the stockpiles are basically not being used (The flux one got three stones in it... and the bars no much more.)
anyone got any idea going on.

Sounds like things are working great and everyone's too busy to haul.  Have you checked the furnaces with 't' to see if there's lots of bars lying in them - or maybe all the bars get turned into goods before they get a chance to reach the stockpile?

Oh, I shopuld have mentioned that:
My furneaces are overflowing with bars.
(When they get too cluttered, I just cancel task an move my smelter to the next one, while my blacksmith catches up,
so also my forges clutter up, since they rn't being emptied either. (One has like 20 copper crossbows)

I have over 25 idlers, who I'ld be using to haul ore down the hundred odd Z levals to the forges, If the stockpiles  were working...

Well if it's not a problem with the stockpile settings I'd mass dump the rock to get it down there.

Can you tell us anything else about this or upload the save? It's hard to troubleshoot when you've basically told us "nothng seems to be wrong but it's not working"

I don't have the orignial save anymore, but here is a new one (that seems to be) exhibitting the same behavour: (I'm yet to turn on any of my smelters, but the rock is not being hauled down to them)
It's 31.16
(i'm using LNP, 5.2. no proper mods (tilesets excluded))

it's a 48MB file BTW, (I'm not sure how great my webservers coverage is, if you can't download it, then i'll reupload to somewhere else)

Bump.
Maybe this should be moved to the bugs sub-forum?

I tested dumping and they moved the stone and its being used.
and the bars are going t the right place
