Dwarven Picnic?
« on: November 09, 2010, 09:28:37 am »

So why have I discovered a giant two-bar gathering of dwarves in the middle of a forest, including their civ's queen?
They all tell me to wait until they're home to talk to them, but where IS their home? They're in the middle of a wide flat foresty area!

The only thing I can think of is that this was a war-party, or a refugee camp. Whatever. New clothes!

If it matters this is the genesis mod, latest .12ASCII version.

Oh. Apparently they're all being chased by a demon. Perhaps they dug too deep?

Istamedir, White Demon is now chasing the King Consort, after apparently having bitten off his ear.

Well, perhaps he wanted something to eat at said picnic?

A cave in released the clowns into the bottom of a mountainhome killing off enough that they abandoned and you stumbled across their pilgrimage?

The least you could have done was throw down some booze and seasoning. Abyssal Monsters that Creatures of the Light Know Not Of aren't savages, y'know. Sharing's caring.

Are clowns even "on" in adventure mode? Also I never saw computer generated dwarves dig in deeper than 8 z layers.

I once flung a migrant off a bridge. He collided with the brook cliff and died.
A year later, my legendary engraver engraved him colliding with an obstacle and dying.

I still don't understand what clowns are. Are they demons or something?

It's one of those things that just sort of developed from the rest of the jargon we use.

Losing is Fun.
If you dig too deep you will find the Fun house.
The Fun house is surrounded by bright blue cotton candy.
In the Funhouse is a Clown Car, inside which are packed manymany clowns.

Sounds like you found a dwarven fortress. As of .12, non-human civilizations in unmodded games are just dumped on the surface in their cities so as to be easier to locate. At least in genesis thanks to blinking leaders.

It would be a dwarven fortress, except that when I talk to everyone they complain about being dumped in the middle of the wilderness. (the "talk to me when i get home!" speech)

EDIT: Well, that and the fact that they are in the middle of a far off wooded plane. Not the mountains.
