Recover from DF crash

If DF (in dwarf mode) crashed, is it safe to reload the default save?  Or do I need to go back to the autosave from the beginning of the season?

It depends on the crash. Most of the time, you should just be able to reload the default. It only seems to get corrupted in certain rare circumstances.
