Tame Forgotten Beast
« on: November 04, 2010, 01:56:13 am »

So... the year after I let the elven traders get slaughtered due to a military SNAFU, they bring a Forgotten Beast. Tamed.

Sadly, I can't train it as a war beast. Sadness...

What DO I do with this thing? O_o

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

Funny, that's the exact phrase I used over here: :P

That pic does not proof it was a tame beast. For all we know it could be a wild one you killed and then slaughtered. Show a picture of your unit list. It should be listed there as Deceased with the (Tame) tag behind it

Also I'm sure you can add [TRAINABLE] somewhere in the raws to make it a war beast.

Just take a picture of the unit list. I really want to see this.

You can't add [TRAINABLE] to forgotten beasts, because they have no raws.

Cram it in a cage in the entrance, link it to a lever. When goblins invade, unleash it. Then they've got a good change of becoming giblins.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

It's almost definitely duplicate raws - creatures are referred to both by ID and by numeric index, so if you have 2 creatures with the same ID (e.g. if you edit a creature definition file and it creates a backup file in the raw folder, and the game decides to load said backup as if it were a normal raw file), the game will get confused and start using the wrong creature for anything that comes after it. Normally, this ends up with things like forgotten beast civilizations, though it can just as easily result in elves bringing caged forgotten beasts instead of their usual animals.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Time to prompt the "bullshit" calls. I got this on a game where I was screwing around and testing crap, and didn't save it (didn't bother once I discovered I couldn't really do anything with it). Damnit, I really shouldn't have posted about it. Stupid sleep deprivation.
