CPU usage question - old 40d16

Hi All - yes I'm still playing an old fort version!

Just a quick question regarding CPU usage.  On this version, no matter what I do DF only uses 50% of my CPU.  Is this version limited to how much CPU it uses in some way?  I have quite a large population (180) and frame rate is low but this doesn't seem to make the process want to grab more CPU.  Can I change this?

Do you mean 50% of one CPU core or 50% between two or more cores?

Ah.  I see where this is going  :-[

I have two cores.  It is using 50% of core 1 and 50% of core 2, so I guess that's 100% of one core, and as DF is not multithreaded I have my answer  ;)
