Dwarf Fortress dropped PPC support?
« on: November 01, 2010, 06:34:45 am »

Today I wanted to download 0.31.16, after having played the hell out of 40d and .16 seems to have an acceptable stability and bug-freeness.
It seems however that Toady dropped the PPC architecture and is now only releasing for x86 macs.

Why is that?
Is developing for the dieing PPC architecture too much work?
Have you decided to drop it due to lack of performance?

When 0.31.13 was released PPC support was dropped. Here's a relevant post

# 09/17/2010: There's the Mac version, which due to more compiler woes will work only with Intel Macs at this point, as far as I understand it. The Windows version doesn't work on Windows 2000 anymore either, as some people have noticed for me the hard way. I've been catching up on email that piled up during the long release cycle, and I'm going to handle more email and forum questions and so on. Then there will probably be another bug fix release before the month end project work begins.

I'm guessing from the "compiler woes" comment, Toady wants to maintain a PPC version, but is unable to figure it out at the moment. Maybe he'll get back to it after this release.

there is an image of the goblin Utes Gozrusrozsnus and dwarves in elf bone. The goblin is making a plaintive gesture. the dwarves are striking a menacing pose.
this image relates to the slaying of Utes Gozrusroz

that was a luky dwarf. I had one dabbling surgeon fail so spectacularly that the patient skull flew a tile away from the table.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?
