Dwarf Miners wont pick up my picks :(

Ive dumped the miner dwarves copper picks and made a few steel ones. But they arnt picking them up, someone please help me *sad face*

I'm having a similiar problem... How do I get people to use a specific item, or move something somewhere?

I know theres a way to specify what items to be picked up if they where in a squad, but when there in a squad there never do there job for some reason.

Also having same problem with hunters.

Well disabling the labour, leaving the menu and then enabling it seemed to work.

Unless you're using your miners as an impromptu militia, I don't see the point.  Copper picks dig out everything that's diggable, and since they're cheap they're pretty much the standard.  Steel doesn't improve anything but their attack against creatures.

Im using steel for asthetics/improv militia. I like the idea of all my dwarves running around only using steel quality objects.
