Amphibious Goblin Siege
« on: October 31, 2010, 07:38:27 pm »

So I got attacked by a goblin invasion mounted on giant olms and they managed to swim below my wall through the river and pop up on the other side causing havoc.  Is it normal for the goblins to stay on the olms while underwater, because they had the drowning tag on yet didnt die.  This would mean i have to fix the river holes... Its like helms deep all over again

The mounts may be amphibious, but the riders aren't - if your waterway is long enough, the goblins will drown.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Or you can use something more dwarvy. Magma.

However, the above is right. Granted I think the olms may be left after.

Firstly, they didn't die because they reached the surface again before they drowned.

Secondly, depends what you mean by "normal." Yes, that happens with amphibious mounts and they can drown their riders; no, it's not supposed to happen, but it's just something that hasn't been fixed.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Did you say "wall"? Better but a roof on that, too, lest they come mounted on giant eagles.

Drowning takes time, death can be averted by getting out of the water before that timer is up.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Indeed. Or most of my military would have terrible drowning-related wounds right now.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
