Yeah, I'm not seeing the problems that some people seem to have with BfW. I love Wesnoth myself, although some of the scenarios (particularly the "hold out for X turns against a complete f**kton of undead" kind) are aggravating.

I think for the most part, it's very well balanced. Most units either have some kind of weakness (archers suck in melee, most melee units lack a ranged attack, cavalry are weak against piercing, undead weak against arcane, heavy infantry are slow and have poor cover ratings, etc.) or are extremely difficult to reach.

I do understand the concern with a RNG killing off units you've worked so hard to protect and level up over a campaign. On the flip side, though, I love the feeling that you start with a rag-tag group of soldiers that, after prolonged battles and actual experience, level up to defeat harder foes. It's a difficult balance to achieve and I think Wesnoth leans a little heavy on the RNG side, but it's pretty darn good for free. I'll have to dust off my Wesnoth install and try out this campaign, it sounds like fun.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Also, most of the units have decent ALAs in this campaign as well, from what I've seen. Thats always appreciated, rather than getting a fully leveled unit and then not using it again because there are other units to level, like so often happens with me.

Well what I do is I use a buffer of weaker units to create opportunities for my more powerful units without the risk. The AI tends to attack weaker units anyhow, making using weak fast units a good strategy.

So I always use my leveled up characters just not always overtly.

Also I found that the creation codes to be way to complex for me to make out... So I am not going to attempt to make anything out of it.

I think for me in the end, it is just not that tactically interesting. Sure there is all this depth about how units interact with terrain and how they work at day or night or against certain units, but it doesnt add up to FUN or me.

I dont like how units cant stack either, it turns it into a game of chinese checkers at times. I think I always wanted Wesnoth to be more like Age of Wonders, but it aint.

Its a fine game for what it is, but lacks interesting gameplay and depth for me.

True it also lacks the "Staples" of turn based strategy games established years ago in the Dos Era such as Ranged (as in more then one square/hex) attacks.
